THE ZAPPEIO MEGARON

We are honored to have been permitted to hold the Athens Tech Summit at the Zappeio Megaron Conference & Exhibition Centre.

Nestled at the heart of Athens, adjacent to the National Gardens and walking distance from iconic landmarks, the Zappeio is a historic venue and a classified national monument.. Designed by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen and completed in 1888, it stands as a neoclassical gem in the centre of modern Athens, symbolizing the confluence of history, culture, and aspiration.

The building as commissioned by Evangelis Zappas, with the support of the Greek state, to revive the spirit of art, industry, and athletic competition. The Zappeion was the first building erected for the revival of the modern Olympic Games in 1896.

Over its lifetime, it has hosted pivotal moments in Greek history, from hosting fencing in the 1896 Games, to acting as Olympic press center in 2004, and even serving as the site for Greece’s accession signing to the European Economic Community (EEC), the precursor to the European Union, in 1979.

The Greek neoclassical architecture features a grand portico with Corinthian columns, a majestic circular peristyle atrium, inner courtyards, and multiple halls of varied scale, blending stateliness with functional versatility. It is continuously maintained as part of the Greek cultural patrimony, with the aim of opening dialogues across science, arts, commerce, and civic life.

The venue offers about 4,546 m² of configurable space for conferences, exhibitions, and events. For the Athens Tech Summit, we will transform the site into a modern press and communications centre, with own security, electricity supply, Wifi, and event management and audiovisual support.

The location is extremely central and is surrounded by political, cultural, and symbolic institutions including the Parliament, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Panathenaic Stadium, and Constitution Square (Syntagma).
