Transfer to Athens International Airport (AIA) from City

Travel Times

  • Peak Traffic: Traffic can get heavy in Athens, especially during rush hours (8:00 AM–10:00 AM and 5:00 PM–7:00 PM), so consider planning an earlier departure from the city center if possible.

  • Allow Extra Time: For international flights, it’s recommended to arrive at the airport at least 2.5–3 hours before your flight’s departure.

 

Taxi

  • Duration: Around 60 minutes, depending on traffic.

  • Where to Catch a Taxi: Taxis are available at designated taxi stands across the city center (e.g., Syntagma Square, Omonia Square, Monastiraki). You can also call a taxi or use a ride-sharing app (Uber, Bolt).

 

Metro

  • Route: Take Metro Line 3 (Blue Line) from Syntagma or Monastiraki stations.

  • Duration: Approximately 40 minutes to the airport.

  • Cost: €10 for a one-way ticket.

  • Operating Hours: The Metro operates daily from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM (check for late-night hours or alternative options if you have a very early flight).

  • Frequency: Every 30 minutes, with trains running frequently during peak hours.

  • Ticketing: Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines or the ticket counter at any metro station.

 

Airport Express Bus

  • Routes: There are several Airport Express Bus routes that connect the city center to the airport, including:

    • X95: Syntagma Square → Athens Airport (24/7 service)

    • X93: Kifisia → Athens Airport (24/7 service)

    • X97: Elliniko → Athens Airport

  • Duration: 40–60 minutes, depending on traffic.

  • Cost: Around €6 for a one-way ticket.

  • Operating Hours: Available 24/7, though there may be fewer buses late at night.

  • Where to Catch: Bus stops are conveniently located in Syntagma, Kifisia, and other major points in Athens.

 

Private Transfer

  • Duration: Around 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic.

  • Cost: Prices vary based on the company and vehicle, but typically range from €45 to €70 for a private car or minivan.

  • Where to Book: You can book a private transfer in advance through local agencies, hotels, or via apps like GetYourGuide, Viator, or Welcome Pickups.

  • Provides door-to-door service, and your driver will wait for you at your accommodation.
